Kayama Island

At a glance

Kayama Island is an uninhabited, tropical and flat island located 2 km to the northwest of Kohama Island. You can visit the island as part of an optional tour organized by Hotel Miyahara on Ishigaki Island. The waters surrounding the island are treasure trove of coral reefs and tropical sea life, providing excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities. The island has a rather nice rest house, but the shower uses rainwater, so visitors are asked to help conserve as much as possible.
The center of the island rises to an elevation of just 19 meters and it can be reached on foot in about 15 minutes. The hill offers great panorama views of the island and ocean. Visitors also have the chance to see the protected hermit crab species or one of the 500 or so wild rabbits that live here, providing a memorable experience for any trip to Kayama Island.

Transportation

Four types of one- day tour (7 to 9 hr) involve snorkeling, diving, picnic and so on. There is also an overnight stargazing tour at a camping site.
