Oha Island

At a glance

Oha Island is situated about 1.2 km to the east of Kume Island. The island is also known as Agario Island (East O Island) because of its close proximity to O Island. At one time Oha Island had a population of more than 100 people, but since then it has declined all the way to one today. The island can be reached by foot in water up to your waist during really low tide, although some places are deep enough for a boat to pass through. Most people get to the island by charter boat from Kume Island. Back before the channel was dredged, students would cross on stilts to attend school. There are not many places to see on the island, but if you do go be sure to keep an eye out for the island's large number of habu pit vipers. Oha Island has no stores or accommodations, so visitors will need to stay on Kume Island or O Island.
